About the Mint Directors Conference

The MDC (Mint Directors Conference), held every two years, is the pre-eminent international event where mint directors, suppliers, retailers and other stakeholders, come together to exchange information and debate the future of coins.

Founded in 1962, the 31st MDC takes place in Cape Town, South Africa, hosted by the South African Mint.

Passing the banner

The 30th MDC conference was hosted by Korea Minting, Security Printing & ID Card Operating Corp. in Seoul in April 2018, and the 31st conference will be organised by South African Mint in Cape Town in October/November 2021.

Cape Town

Perched between the ocean and the mountain, with a national park as its heart, there is nowhere like Cape Town. Cape Town, the “Mother City”, is the oldest city in South Africa and has a cultural heritage spanning more than 300 years.

South African Mint

The South African Mint, home of the world-famous Krugerrand is the continent’s leading manufacturer of legal coin tender, as well as commemorative and rare collectible coins.
